Look, Listen + Learn TV
I had the honor of first meeting Look, Listen + Learn TV’s founder and Executive Producer Val Thomas-Matson back in the early 00’s as she nurtured her vision to create a children’s television program to improve media representation and support early childhood development. My first project with LL+L TV back then was to create an opening sequence for its pilot episode. Our paths crossed once again, and I was fortunate to partner once again with Val and her team as LL+L TV became a 501(c)3 non-profit organization to broaden its outreach while continuing to create award-winning children’s tv show starring herself as Auntie Lena with her pal, the puppet character Possum.
The timing could not have been more perfect, as I was making a career pivot to expand my creative experience in children’s media content. As a kid, I grew up with Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers, Schoolhouse Rock, and the Electric Company (along with cartoons and anime shows), and being able to contribute my design, art, and motion/animation expertise with an organization producing children’s television was a dream come true!
While the organization has since been sunsetted, the TV program Look, Listen + Learn continues to live on PBS.

To provide customized zoom backgrounds for Look, Listen + Learn TV's core team and board members, our Communications Manager suggested creating background assets that people could choose for their final zoom background. While creating the illustrations, I also took the initiative to create an interactive Figma prototype to allow staff members to choose design elements for their own customized Zoom background. I could then easily incorporate their background preferences by just swapping out the components, adding in their personal item, and exporting the PNG for use. This efficient workflow saved hours of work and supported scaling production.
